We're very fond of working with Yellow Birch.  This wood is strong, with a hardness similar to that of Red Oak.  It is durable and will provide years of service.  Our reclaimed Yellow Birch also features very interesting grain patterns by combining the creamy white sapwood and lovely distinct brownish red heartwood in the center of the tree. This particular piece is cut from the heartwood and shows some "flame" mixed in with the darker color of the center of the board.  Its long and narrow size makes it perfect for slicing bread!
